The Ekiti State Police Command has successfully apprehended six suspected armed robbers known for targeting Point of Sale (PoS) operators and traders, seizing their money in a series of coordinated attacks.
The suspects, identified as Doyin Ajisafe, Joshua Olabanji, Femi Fasusi, Femi Adewale, Olayosi Adeolodi, and Ezekiel Babalola, were paraded by the Police Commissioner of Ekiti State, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale. The commissioner, represented by the Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, revealed that the arrests were made following a tip-off that led the Rapid Response Squad to the suspects’ various hideouts in Ado Ekiti.
“Investigations have shown that these individuals have been involved in at least nine robberies targeting PoS operators across different locations within Ado Ekiti between June 19 and August 5, 2024,” Akinwale stated. “They were planning further attacks when our officers apprehended them, and a locally made single-barrel gun with a live cartridge was recovered.”
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes, admitting to targeting PoS operators in several areas, including Ori-Apata, Adebayo, Basiri, Better Life, Olaoluwa, Oke-Ila, Housing, and Moferere.
The police commissioner assured that all suspects would be charged in court and that efforts were underway to capture additional accomplices still at large. He acknowledged the recent rise in criminal activities involving motorcycles used in robberies, particularly against PoS operators, and commended the police for their swift response.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of our citizens,” Akinwale affirmed, urging residents to continue their lawful activities without fear and to report any suspicious activities to the police by calling the emergency number or visiting the nearest station.
The police also reiterated their dedication to transparency and law enforcement, dismissing any allegations of corruption within the force.
