Tragedy struck in Ilorin, Kwara State, as the lifeless body of 21-year-old Mojisola Awesu, a student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, was discovered at a refuse dump in the Aleniboro area. Mojisola had reportedly been hired by a friend to pose as a girlfriend for a private university student at a party, for which she was to be paid N15,000.
The grim discovery was confirmed by the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement released on Tuesday. According to the PPRO, the body was found on August 12, 2024, by laborers who were working in the area. The police responded to the scene and later identified the deceased as Mojisola Awesu. Her body was subsequently taken to a morgue.
The police were alerted to the situation when a missing person report was filed on August 13 by Mojisola’s roommate, Miss Blessing. Blessing reported that Mojisola had gone missing after attending a party organized by students of two private universities in the state.
DSP Ejire-Adeyemi revealed that on August 9, Mojisola received a call from her friend, Miss Timileyin, who informed her about the event. Timileyin introduced Mojisola to a student from Summit University, Mr. Adebayo Happiness, who allegedly invited her to the party under the pretense of acting as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.
Upon arriving in Ilorin, Mojisola expressed her discomfort with the hotel where she was lodged by Adebayo, noting that there was no party at the location. After communicating her unease to her roommate, Mojisola’s phone became unreachable, and all subsequent attempts to contact her failed.
The police have since arrested several suspects in connection with the incident, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
