Residents of the Alagbado area in Lagos State were left in shock after a 58-year-old man died while reportedly undertaking a 19-day fast. The tragic incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, during a telephone conversation on Tuesday.
According to Hundeyin, the deceased, whose identity has not been disclosed, passed away around 6:00 am. The man’s younger brother, who also remains unnamed, informed the Alagbado Police Division of the incident at approximately 7:00 pm on Monday.
The brother reported that the deceased had been observing a 19-day dry fast when he died. The police do not suspect foul play, and the family has requested permission to transport the body for burial.
This incident is reminiscent of a similar tragedy in 2019 when Brighton Samajomba, a Zambian pastor, died after a 10-day fast as part of his annual 30-day fasting
