Akintunde Armstrong, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has strongly denied allegations that he is attempting to impose councilorship candidates in Iperu Ward Three and Five within Ikenne Local Government Area by spending a substantial $80,000.
In a statement released on Friday by his media assistant, Oluseun Joshua, Armstrong dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated, aimed at tarnishing his reputation. The rumors suggest that Armstrong boasted about using his financial resources to ensure his loyalists, Olaleye Babatunde and Osularu Muyiwa, secure the councilorship tickets for the upcoming local government elections on November 16.
Armstrong refuted these allegations, calling them “the ranting of rudderless opposition” and labeling them as falsehoods intended to mislead the public. He expressed disbelief at the idea that anyone would claim he is willing to spend such a large amount of money, especially in the current economic climate, to impose candidates.
The chieftain also dismissed the suggestion that he claimed even Governor Dapo Abiodun, a native of the area, could not stop him from pushing his agenda. Armstrong reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Abiodun, whom he regards as his leader and mentor, and reiterated his commitment to supporting the governor’s vision for the state.
He clarified that the funds mentioned in the circulated video were actually part of the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda, aimed at empowering party members across the state, and not for any candidate imposition. Armstrong pledged his continued support for the APC, vowing to work towards a landslide victory in the upcoming local government elections.
