The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called upon Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to appear before its disciplinary committee over accusations of anti-party activities.
This was revealed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP Deputy National Publicity Secretary, during an appearance on Channels Television’s “Sunrise Daily” on Monday. According to Abdullahi, Wike has been formally summoned through a letter to face the disciplinary committee, which is chaired by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi and was established by the party’s National Working Committee.
“Three weeks ago, we established two key committees—one for reconciliation and another for discipline. Nyesom Wike is among those who will face the disciplinary committee, headed by Chief Tom Ikimi,” Abdullahi stated. “The committee will investigate various cases of anti-party activities, including allegations of sabotage during the primary elections, which have been brought to our attention.”
Abdullahi noted that several party members have submitted petitions against Wike and others, which have now been compiled and forwarded to the committee for review. Some party members believe that Wike’s actions have been detrimental to the PDP and have questioned his continued membership in the party.
Abdullahi also criticized Wike’s recent remarks about “putting fire in their states,” directed at PDP governors, calling the comments “disappointing and unacceptable.” He emphasized that Wike should exercise more caution in his statements, especially given his current role.
This development comes just days after Wike publicly expressed his satisfaction with his role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, despite facing criticism from within his party. During a PDP Congress in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike threatened to create a political crisis in the states of any PDP governor who interferes in the party’s affairs in Rivers State. He also made controversial remarks, suggesting that anyone unhappy with his involvement in Tinubu’s government should “go and hug a transformer.”
