he Nigerian Army has arrested Adeleye Ayomide, the main suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Idowu Christiana, a 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State. Christiana was abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos on August 19, 2024. Initially, her kidnappers demanded a ransom of N3 million but later agreed to N350,000, yet they failed to release her. Tragically, she was killed by her captors.
Lt-Col. Olabisi Ayeni, spokesperson for the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, confirmed Ayomide’s arrest by the 174 Battalion, adding that he would be handed over to the Lagos State Police Command for further investigation.
The arrest followed suspicions raised by social media users on X (formerly Twitter), where #JusticeForChristiana trended, with over 90,000 posts demanding justice. Some posts revealed that Ayomide, a student of Philosophy at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), was tracked and arrested after confessing to the crime. Ayomide reportedly had a prior relationship with the victim, and evidence, including Christiana’s phone, was found in his possession.
Christiana’s death has sparked outrage, with many Nigerians calling for justice for the slain student.
