The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has called for a comprehensive investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). This directive follows a viral video posted by social media influencer Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, in which popular personality Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, alleged that after his sentencing, his “godfather,” in collaboration with the Comptroller General of the NCoS, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment instead of prison.
In the video, Bobrisky claimed, “After my sentencing, my godfather assured me I wouldn’t serve time in prison. He arranged an apartment near the prison and coordinated with the Comptroller General of Prisons. I was told to stay in the apartment for the duration of my sentence, but the person overseeing it demanded N10 million, so I had to negotiate.”
Reacting swiftly to the claims, Minister Tunji-Ojo condemned the alleged misconduct and emphasized that indiscipline and corruption within the paramilitary services would not be tolerated. In a statement released by his media aide, Alao Babatunde, the minister pledged to ensure transparency in the investigation.
“The Minister of Interior has ordered a full and unconditional investigation into these allegations,” the statement read. “There will be zero tolerance for any form of indiscipline, unprofessionalism, or corruption in the services under the Ministry’s control.”
The investigation will be led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, with the minister promising rigorous, transparent, and impartial proceedings. Tunji-Ojo assured that any officials found guilty would face strict disciplinary actions.
