The Dangote Group has announced plans to transport refined petroleum products by sea to alleviate the burden on Nigeria’s road networks. According to a statement by Fatima Wali-Abdurrahman, Senior Adviser to the Group President on Special Projects and Strategic Relations, the company has constructed a jetty in the Lekki Free Zone to facilitate this new logistics approach. This jetty, originally used for handling bulk cargo during the refinery’s development, will now be used to transport refined products to other Nigerian ports and beyond.
The initiative aims to reduce congestion on the country’s roads and promote the export of products to other African markets via seaports. The announcement was made during the Dangote Group’s participation in a trade fair organized by the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where the company showcased various business units, including its newly operational refinery.
The Dangote Refinery, a key attraction at the fair, has already begun discharging petroleum products, generating interest from attendees seeking business and employment opportunities. The group also highlighted its investment in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as part of efforts to reduce its carbon footprint, with a goal to convert its entire fleet to CNG in the future.
ACCI President, Chief Emeka Obegolu, praised Dangote’s contribution to Nigeria’s industrialization and revenue through taxes, noting that the group’s investments have helped fund critical infrastructure and social programs.
