Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has called upon citizens to actively participate in the rebuilding of Nigeria, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to strengthen the country. His remarks came during an interdenominational church service organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Home Affairs, held in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.
Represented by the state’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr. Sam Egube, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the event’s theme, “Rebuilders of Broken Foundations,” noting its significance in encouraging citizens to contribute positively to national reconstruction. He stressed that rebuilding a nation requires the involvement of all its citizens, stating, “Each of us must be willing to rebuild our nation.” He urged Nigerians to not only focus on their rights but also embrace their responsibilities to foster a more united effort in rebuilding.
The governor pointed out that infrastructure development is crucial for economic growth and community security. “We have embarked on transformative plans to boost our economy, creating opportunities for future growth for us all,” he added.
During the service, Bishop Jeremiah Adeyemi of CMAG International Ministry encouraged Lagos residents and Nigerians to remain humble, united, and focused. Drawing from biblical verses Isaiah 58:12 and Zechariah 1:18, he prayed for God’s mercy on Nigeria and for positive changes to take place. “Showers of blessings shall reign on Nigeria, and our story will change for the better,” he declared.
Mr. Ibrahim Layode, the state Commissioner for Home Affairs, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that Lagos residents benefit from democratic initiatives.
The service attracted a diverse audience, including permanent secretaries, military and paramilitary officials, heads of Lagos State Government agencies, students, and representatives from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN). The event featured intercessory prayers for peace, unity, and divine guidance for President Bola Tinubu and his cabinet, as well as for Lagos State officials and public servants.
