Senator Jonathan Zwingina, a former Senate Majority Leader and prominent political figure, has reportedly passed away at the age of 70. Zwingina, originally from Adamawa State, played a significant role in Nigeria’s political landscape. He was notably the Director-General of MKO Abiola’s campaign organization during the June 12, 1993 presidential election, one of the most pivotal moments in the country’s democratic history.
Although his family has not yet officially confirmed his death, reports indicate that the Adamawa South Senatorial District representative died on October 2, 2024, in Abuja. A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zwingina later switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC). His passing marks the loss of a seasoned politician with decades of experience in Nigerian politics.
