In a dramatic confrontation, three suspected kidnappers were killed by police following a failed kidnapping attempt on the wife of a Delta State House of Assembly member. The incident occurred on September 2, 2024, at Okoloba Junction on Jakpa Road in Uvwie, where the kidnappers killed two policemen and the driver, identified as Mr. David Imela.
Delta State police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed the operation on Sunday in Asaba. He stated, “In response to the failed kidnapping, which resulted in the deaths of two Mobile Policemen and the driver, Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda immediately ordered a comprehensive deployment in Warri and its surroundings, including blocking all exit routes.”
The police operatives from the Ebrumede Division, under the leadership of DPO CSP Iwok Ndifereke, executed a strategic plan by creating an artificial traffic jam at the DSC Roundabout. They spotted a vehicle matching the description provided. Upon noticing the police presence and the traffic situation, the suspects opened fire on the officers, who retaliated with professionalism given the area’s high traffic.
In the ensuing gunfight, four rifles were recovered from the scene. The police continue to investigate the incident and ensure the safety of the community.
