Transportation costs in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are expected to surge as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has raised the price of petrol to N1,030 per litre at some of its stations in Abuja. This marks the second price hike within a month, reflecting a 14.8% increase from the previous rate of N897 per litre.
Our correspondent observed the price adjustment across multiple NNPCL stations in the FCT on Wednesday. At the NNPCL mega station in the Central Area, customers were left frustrated as the new price was not displayed on the signboard or pump meter. Instead, attendants verbally informed them of the updated cost. One customer expressed anger after waiting in line, only to find out that the price had jumped to N1,030.
“I came here thinking their price would be better, only to waste time in the queue before being told that the price had risen. It’s frustrating,” said the customer, who chose to remain anonymous.
Meanwhile, checks at independent marketers like Conoil and Total Energies, located opposite the NNPCL headquarters, revealed that petrol was being sold for N926 per litre. However, these stations were met with long queues as consumers sought out the comparatively lower prices.
