President Bola Tinubu, alongside the Federal Executive Council (FEC), has abolished the Ministry of Niger Delta and the Ministry of Sports Development. The decision was disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, following a FEC meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Niger Delta will now be replaced by a Ministry of Regional Development, which will oversee regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and others such as the North West, South West, and North East Development Commissions.
Additionally, the Ministry of Sports Development’s functions will be transferred to the National Sports Commission, which will take charge of all sports-related activities in the country.
The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, consolidating them into a single entity to better streamline operations. Further details are expected as the government implements these changes.
