SSANU’s National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, stated that compliance with the strike is at 98% across universities, signaling a strong, united front. “We will not resume until all salaries are paid,” Ibrahim declared, noting that the situation has left universities effectively shut down.
Adding to the pressure, the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) has also announced a nationwide protest over withheld salaries and the government’s unfulfilled agreements. The protest, set to begin on November 6, will escalate to a full strike by November 14 if demands remain unmet. NAAT President Ibeji Nwokoma expressed frustration, emphasizing that the government had yet to implement President Tinubu’s recent approval for outstanding payments.
This series of strikes risks disrupting academic schedules and vital research efforts across Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, placing the incoming Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, under significant pressure to address the issue swiftly.
