The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the successful payment of allowances to all examiners engaged in the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for schools, clearing up recent misinformation circulating on social media. NECO disclosed that all 72,138 examiners, employed as ad-hoc staff, have now received their due allowances as per the council’s payment plan.
In a statement issued by Azeez Sani, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, NECO noted that payments began on October 4, 2024, using a bank-based system to streamline the process and minimize errors. NECO’s approach aimed to maintain transparency and ensure smooth reconciliation during the payment process. However, some examiners initially experienced delays due to incorrect bank details submitted by a few, which NECO swiftly addressed in coordination with the affected individuals. As of November 13, 2024, all payments across the 24 banks involved have been fully processed and confirmed.
NECO also addressed recent social media claims suggesting the council deliberately withheld examiner payments, deeming these allegations false. In response, NECO urged examiners or others with concerns to seek clarification directly from the council to prevent misunderstandings and misinformation.
The council expressed gratitude for the examiners’ dedicated service, highlighting that NECO values the essential role they play in ensuring the successful conduct of national examinations.
