The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Gas Marketing Limited (NNPCGML), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has formalized a Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement with Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals in Lagos. This strategic partnership, signed by NNPCGML’s Managing Director, Justin Ezeala, and Dangote Group’s President/CEO, Aliko Dangote, facilitates the supply of natural gas for power generation and as feedstock to the Dangote Refinery.
NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye highlighted that the agreement aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s policy to leverage Nigeria’s abundant gas reserves to fuel industrial growth and economic development. The agreement outlines that NNPCGML will supply the refinery with 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCF/D) of natural gas—50 MMSCF/D as firm supply and an additional 50 MMSCF/D as interruptible supply. This contract is set for an initial 10-year period, with renewal options.
The arrangement is anticipated to significantly enhance the operational efficiency of the Dangote Refinery, Nigeria’s largest private oil refinery, and further bolster domestic gas utilization, a key component in NNPCL’s mission to strengthen the country’s energy security. This milestone exemplifies NGML’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s industrial infrastructure and fulfilling NNPCL’s mandate to execute strategic energy projects that benefit the country’s economy and population.
