Four Nigerian students have been sentenced in the UK for their roles in a violent altercation involving knives and a baseball bat in Leicester. The November 4, 2021, incident on New Park Street left one victim with multiple stab wounds.
Following an extensive investigation by Leicester Police, which utilized CCTV footage and phone tracking, the students were arrested and subsequently convicted. The trial concluded in October, with sentences delivered on November 14, 2024.
Sentences Handed Down
- Destiny Ojo (21, Plumstead, London): Seven years for violent disorder, attempted grievous bodily harm (GBH), and GBH with intent.
- Habib Lawal (21, Bexley, London): Five years for violent disorder, attempted GBH, and GBH with intent.
- Ridwanulahi Raheem (21, Lambeth, London): Three years for violent disorder and possession of a bladed article.
- Joshua Davies-Ero (21, Bexley, London): Two years for violent disorder.
- Justin Asamoah (22, Merton): Pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and will be sentenced on November 22.
Police Response
Detective Constable Sean Downey highlighted the case’s severity, emphasizing the potential for fatal consequences. He stated, “This incident underscores the grave dangers of violent disorder. It is fortunate that the injuries were not more severe or fatal. Violent behavior will not be tolerated in our communities.”
A Leicester Police spokesperson praised the public’s role in the investigation and reaffirmed the force’s commitment to community safety.
