Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered an immediate review of the state’s electronic governance platform following the discovery of a significant data security vulnerability. The review comes after it was revealed that unknown non-state actors are managing the platform from its backend, leaving no one within the state’s public service with administrative control.
This directive was issued in a “Government Special Announcement” dated November 25, 2024, and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor. According to the statement, the platform, originally set up by the previous administration, is now being operated by external parties, posing a major security risk to the state’s governance structure.
The statement also dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the government had shut down the e-governance platform. It clarified that, while the platform is still operational, the ongoing review will address the critical issue of external control, which is considered a serious data security threat.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized the urgency of the review, stating that restoring control of the platform to the state government is essential for safeguarding governance processes and institutional memory. In the meantime, all officials and staff in the state’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been instructed to continue their work on the platform until the review is completed.
The government is committed to resolving this issue swiftly to ensure the integrity and security of the state’s digital governance systems.
