Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), revealed during the church’s monthly thanksgiving service that one of their pastors abroad was arrested for addressing an audience as “ladies and gentlemen.”
The phrase, deemed discriminatory in some cultures for not acknowledging non-binary and other gender identities, reportedly led to complaints and the pastor’s arrest. Adeboye shared the incident as an example of shifting global cultural norms, describing it as a wake-up call for Christians to remain steadfast in their faith amidst changing societal values.
Signs of the Times?
Adeboye warned congregants about moral erosion worldwide, referencing another incident where a woman referred to her dog as her husband. He interpreted these events as signs of the “end times,” urging believers to strengthen their commitment to God.
“The end is nearer than you think,” Adeboye stated. “The devil wants to harvest you, but you must not give him the opportunity.”
Addressing Trends in the Church
Adeboye has previously expressed concerns about cultural trends infiltrating the church. At the RCCG’s 72nd annual convention in August, he criticized church workers adopting braided hairstyles, false eyelashes, and heavy makeup, declaring these styles unwelcome on RCCG altars.
His comments underscore his commitment to upholding what he considers biblical standards of conduct and appearance among members and workers in the church.
