The Aisha Achimugu Foundation on Thursday brought Christmas cheer to Kabusa, Abuja, by distributing cash and raw food items to less privileged and vulnerable residents as part of its annual Christmas outreach.
Kiema Ogunlana, the foundation’s Programme Director, said the event reflects the Foundation’s vision of creating a world where all vulnerable individuals can lead quality lives.
“We are marking the end of the year by spreading joy, sharing happiness, and touching lives despite the prevailing hardship in Nigeria. This is made possible through the generosity of our Founder and President, Dr. Aisha Achimugu OFR, who has consistently supported our interventions throughout the year,” Ogunlana stated.
In 2024, the foundation impacted about 65,000 individuals across Nigeria through various initiatives, including infrastructure development, community health outreaches, Empowerment and Educational programmes.
The outreach also served as a pre-launch for the foundation’s name change from Sam Empowerment Foundation (SEF) to Aisha Achimugu Foundation.
Vera Idi, Director of Finance, Administration, and Policy Governance at Felak Group, explained that the event was part of the organisation’s corporate social responsibility. She noted that Kabusa was chosen due to its gross underdevelopment and lack of government attention.
Widows, people living with disabilities, aged women, elderly, and other vulnerable groups—numbering 700—were identified through a needs assessment conducted by the organisation in collaboration with community leaders and benefited from the charity outreach.
The Hakimi of Kabusa expressed gratitude to the foundation, highlighting the importance of the initiative.
“We did not anticipate such a kind gesture. People often come to me begging for alms and food, and sometimes I have to hide because I cannot meet all their requests. This outreach will ease that burden.
“I love this organisation and plead with them to continue their good work for our people. They have created a positive relationship with us, and they have our prayers and goodwill always,” the monarch added.
The event featured funfair and gaming activities, attracting over 500 children. One of the beneficiaries, 13-year-old Angela Michael, expressed her delight: “ I had gifts from Santa, and I want to say that God should bless them and give them long life and prosperity.”
A similar outreach is scheduled to take place in Niger State.
