Over 500 widows and underprivileged women in Abuja received a generous gift of food this Christmas, thanks to the Marian Soup Kitchen (MSK), a charitable initiative founded 13 years ago by the late Father William Ojukwu.
The program, held on December 24, distributed 10 kg of rice to brighten the festive season for struggling households.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Austin Ijere, a member of MSK’s Board of Trustees, emphasized the organization’s commitment to uplifting the needy.
“Every year, we ensure widows and the less privileged can celebrate Christmas.
“Despite the economic challenges, this is our way of encouraging them and honoring the legacy of Father Ojukwu,” he said.
The distribution, carried out at the MSK Center, was supported by volunteers and law enforcement, ensuring order and safety throughout the process.
Beneficiaries expressed deep appreciation for the gesture. Lady Monica Peter Odey prayed for divine blessings upon the organizers, while Mrs. Josephine Nwogbo, a first-time recipient, described the initiative as a lifeline for many families. “God will bless those who made this possible and grant them long life and prosperity,” she said.
St. William Catholic Church’s Catechist, Ogah Malachy Odey, commended the program’s organization, noting how efficiently the distribution was handled.
Another recipient, Cecilia Akinwande, added, “This food is a blessing, especially for those who can’t afford a meal for their children during this season.”
The Marian Soup Kitchen continues to embody the spirit of Christmas, touching lives with its acts of kindness and bringing hope to those in need.
