Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to supporting the families of fallen heroes, praising their courage and sacrifice in safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty.
The governor made this commitment on Wednesday during the Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration, held at the World War I and II Cenotaph in Lokoja, where he participated in the traditional wreath-laying ceremony.
Governor Ododo highlighted the importance of the event as a moment to honour the contributions of Nigeria’s armed forces to nation-building and reflect on their sacrifices.
In his remarks, the governor announced the immediate inclusion of widows and children of fallen heroes in the Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme, granting them access to free healthcare services. He also pledged continued support for injured officers and servicemen in the state.
“As we remember our brave men who defended Nigeria’s sovereignty and gave their lives for peace, we pray for their eternal rest and celebrate their values of unity and hope,” Governor Ododo said.
He urged Nigerians to maintain unity and peace, recognising the sacrifices of the armed forces as a foundation for the nation’s progress.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for prioritising security and peace under his administration’s renewed hope agenda.
The event featured tributes from military commanders, traditional rulers, and representatives of army veterans, honouring the fallen heroes who lost their lives in major conflicts, including World War I and II, the Nigerian Civil War, and various peacekeeping missions.
