The House of Representatives has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Chief of Army Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, to take decisive action against bandits terrorizing communities in Katsina State.
The resolution was adopted on Tuesday following a motion titled, “Need to Enhance Security Operations Against Killings and Kidnappings by Bandits in Kafur/Malumfashi Federal Constituency, Katsina State,” presented by Hon. Mohammed Ibrahim.
Supporting the motion, Ibrahim condemned the alarming rise in banditry, which has led to widespread killings and kidnappings in the affected areas.
“The incessant banditry in Malumfashi town, Marabar Kankara, Na Alma, and several villages in Malumfashi LGA, as well as Yari Bori, Gidan Kaura, Kuringafa, and other villages in Kafur LGA, has displaced many communities. Wealthy and influential individuals have fled for fear of being kidnapped or killed,” he stated.
The House expressed deep concern over the toll on vulnerable groups, including women, young children, and security personnel. A Divisional Police Officer from Kafur LGA remains hospitalized at the Federal Medical Centre, Katsina, after being shot during a rescue operation.
Lawmakers urged security agencies to intensify operations and restore peace in the affected areas.
