The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially issued a Notice of Polls for the Area Council Elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The elections are scheduled to take place on February 21, 2026, starting at 8:30 AM across all polling units within the FCT.
In a statement released on Wednesday, INEC emphasized that only eligible voters with valid Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and whose names appear on the voter register will be allowed to cast their ballots. The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) will be deployed to ensure a transparent voting process.
The elections will cover the six Area Councils of the FCT, with INEC reiterating its policy of “No PVC, No Voting.”
“This is to inform the general public that INEC will conduct elections in the six Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory,” the notice stated. “Only persons whose names appear on the register of voters and have valid PVCs will be allowed to vote.”
The commission urged voters to ensure their voter details are up-to-date and to be prepared for a smooth and credible electoral process.
