The Nigeria Police Force has condemned the actions of its officers seen in a viral video accepting money from a Chinese national, branding their behavior as “unprofessional and unethical.”
The video, which has stirred public outrage online, prompted swift action from police authorities. In a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are undergoing disciplinary procedures.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognisance of a disturbing video showing officers receiving money from a Chinese national. The conduct is strongly condemned as it is inconsistent with the ethics and core values of the Force,” the statement read.
Adejobi emphasized that such misconduct undermines public trust and goes against the standards of the Nigeria Police Force, which maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward unprofessional behavior.
While the specific nature of the disciplinary measures has not been disclosed, the Force assured the public that justice will be served and the matter will be handled transparently.
The police also issued a warning to individuals and organizations utilizing police services, especially escorts and guards, to refrain from acts that could compromise the integrity of officers or tarnish the image of the Force.
This incident comes as the Nigeria Police continues efforts to restore public confidence and implement internal reforms. Adejobi reaffirmed the commitment of the Force to upholding professionalism and ensuring accountability.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to discipline and service in line with international best practices,” he said, noting that the outcome of this case will serve as a deterrent to future misconduct.
