Dongwuyang Super Bridge, a pivotal control project of the Ningde-Shangrao Expressway that links the provinces of Fujian Province in southeast China and Jiangxi Province in the east, made full structural closure on Monday, paving the way for the highway’s opening to traffic by the end of the year.
Spanning 2,546.6 meters, the super bridge features four closure segments, each two meters long. These segments were connected using cantilever cast-in-place concrete construction with form travelers. To ensure casting quality and minimize temperature-related stress, workers carried out concrete pouring during the cooler early hours. The final cube of concrete was poured at 2:00 a.m. on Monday, marking the structural closure of the entire bridge.
The Ningde-Shangrao Expressway, part of China’s national expressway network, is expected to significantly boost the development of Fujian’s eastern coastal industrial cluster. Once it opens to traffic at the end of the year, the expressway will also promote local tourism and increase the overall regional competitiveness.
