Nigeria’s Deaf Eagles on Wednesday qualified for the final of the 13th edition of ECOWAS football competition by beating their Niger Republic counterparts 2-0 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium Abuja on Wednesday.
The defending champion will now meet the Gambian national team whom they defeated during the group stage 3-2 in the final billed for Saturday.
Emeka Izechukwu was the star of the encounter scoring a brace to take his goal tally to five in the championship.
Speaking after the encounter, the Deaf Eagles Chief Coach Kamilu Banjo expressed optimism about winning their 6th tiltle in the tournament.
“We have won the championship for five times and we hope to make it a record of six times regardless of who we meet on Saturday in the final,”
He praised his boys for playing to instructions although he blamed them for missing some couple of chances in the tie.
Coach Banjo asked the Federal Government, Private and Corporate entities to rally round the team to enable them emerge one the best team in the continent.
“We have only been to the Deaflympics once in Bulgaria in 2013 and missed that of Chinese Tapei some years later due to lack of funds,” he added.
He said the team will not disappoint Nigerians in the final on Saturday, promising that they will retain the title won in Lagos last year..
They defeated Gambia and Cote d’ Ivoire 3-0 and 3-2 respectively at the group stage to enter the semifinal.
