The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has disclosed that part of the new strategies the agency is deploying for information dissemination is introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Issa-Onilu made the disclosure on Ibadan on Thursday at a town hall meeting on National Campaign on Five Thematic Areas of the agencies operations.
Represented by the Oyo State Director of the NOA, Mrs. Simiat Akande Ajolayo, Issa-Onilu enumerated the five areas to include national value reorientation for students of secondary and tertiary institutions against ‘sign-out extreme practices,’ enlightenment on government policies, programmes and activities, the national identity project and national symbols, flood mitigation as well as national security awareness.
“In the current dispensation, we have reinvigorated our website, www.noa.gov.ng; we have equally deployed an Artificial Intelligence persona, which we call CLHEEAN, on our website.
“This, in addition to our presence on all social media platforms, has enabled us to meet the information needs especially the younger generation,” he said.
The DG also said that the Federal Government had been spending heavily to lessen economic burden on the citizenry.
He spoke about the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), social safety net, National Youth Investment Fund (NYIF), the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), adding that billions of naira had been pumped into the programmes.
Issa-Onilu explained that the five areas the agency had highlighted would be addressed through campaigns by press conferences, town hall meetings, advocacy visits, visitation to schools, traditional rulers, motor parks and markets.
Present at the meeting were representatives of security agencies, religious and traditional rulers, trade unions as well as market leaders.
