President Bola Tinubu’s visit to pay last respects to the deceased mother of the APC national chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwayda, at the weekend, has generated diverse reactions from residents of Jos, the Plateau State capital.
While the visit showcased the president’s respect for the family, it also raised concerns about security measures and alleged arrests of reporters.
The city of Jos experienced increased economic activity, with businesses witnessing patronage from high-profile individuals.
Hotels were fully booked and nightlife in areas like Rayfield saw a surge in activity, albeit with reported price hikes.
An eyewitness, Selfa Penzin, noted that the town was saturated with visitors since last Thursday and highlighted the economic opportunities brought by the president’s visit.
Some eyewitnesses praised the president’s visit, citing improvements in infrastructure.
One witness noted that the visit led to the installation of streetlights in Bukuru Town, Zawan Junction to Mararaban Jama’a, giving the town a new look.
While some individuals appreciated the president’s visit, others had mixed feelings.
One eyewitness jokingly suggested that President Tinubu should visit Jos every year, citing the positive impact on the local economy.
