Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President, has provided cash support of N100,000 each to 250 elderly persons selected from the 31 Local Councils of Akwa Ibom. The cash gift is part of the Renewed Hope Elderly Support Initiative (RHES) of the First Lady. The donation was presented by the wife of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mrs. Patience Umo Eno, who expressed her happiness at the event coinciding with the day the Supreme Court certified her husband’s electoral victory.
The event, which was initially planned for December 2023, was shifted to the New Year due to various engagements. The First Lady emphasized her commitment to celebrating with the elderly, highlighting the significance of the day for the state.
In addition to the cash support, the event featured a health talk by Dr. Ekem John and Dr. Uduak Nkanta, who emphasized the importance of regular medical check-ups for the elderly. They discussed common ailments among the elderly, such as high blood pressure, stroke, and diabetes, stressing the significance of early detection for better healthcare.
Beneficiaries of the initiative expressed their gratitude for the support and praised the Governor’s wife for implementing the scheme in the state. The RHES initiative aims to enhance and cater to the well-being of the elderly in Akwa Ibom.
