The family of Deborah Fawolere, a three-month pregnant mother of six who died at Gbagada General Hospital, has accused her husband, Idowu Fawolere, of having a hand in her death. The late wife’s sister, Toluwalase Adedoyin, claimed that the husband physically assaulted Deborah, even during her pregnancy.
According to Adedoyin, Deborah had left her husband’s house on multiple occasions due to assault and violence. She alleged that Deborah had complained about the constant beatings and disturbances caused by her husband and his elder brother. The family believes that the physical assault may have contributed to Deborah’s deteriorating health, leading to her death during the seventh pregnancy.
In response, Idowu Fawolere denied the allegations, describing them as “cooked-up stories.” He stated that he was the one who took Deborah to the hospital when she wasn’t feeling well and denied any physical assault. Fawolere claimed that the accusations were fueled by an earlier dispute between Deborah and his mother.
The Divisional Police Officer in Oworonsoki, Bello Taofeek, confirmed that the matter had been reported to the police, and they were investigating the case. The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency urged the family to formally report the incident to enable appropriate action.
This incident comes on the heels of another domestic violence case in December 2023, where a husband allegedly murdered his wife in the Olota area of Alimosho Local Government Area over a dispute about a meal.
