Police forces successfully thwarted an attempt by suspected bandits to attack Tse Gaagum village in Ukemberegya Council Ward, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. During the encounter, security operatives reportedly shot and killed two of the assailants.
According to an anonymous source from the community, the bandits raided the village around 4:00 am on Wednesday. In response, villagers swiftly contacted the security forces, who promptly engaged the bandits in a pursuit.
The source stated, “The bandits stormed the village at about 4:00 am on Wednesday and forcefully took away motorcycles and valuables. Luckily, a resident of the village made a call to policemen who raced to the area and succeeded in chasing them and in the process killed one of them and recovered a Bajaj motorcycle.”
Joseph Har, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security and Internal Affairs, confirmed the incident and praised the security operatives for their swift response to the distress call. Har stated, “I got the information that security men in Logo who received distress calls from residents of Tse Gaagum village in the early hours of today (Wednesday) shot dead one of the bandits who attacked the community.”
He further disclosed that the security forces successfully recovered a Bajaj motorcycle belonging to a villager. Items confiscated from the bandits included a locally fabricated AK-47 with six live ammunition, charms, and machetes.
Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene of the Benue State Police Command, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls made to her cell phone.
