Unknown gunmen carried out an attack on the Ngboejeogu Central Security office at Ngbo Court in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, resulting in the death of a female local security personnel, Mrs. Onwe Blessing, and injuring another individual. The incident occurred yesterday, and it was reported that the assailants, whose identities remain unknown, also made off with properties, including a motorcycle.
Prince Ikechukwu Odono, who confirmed the attack, disclosed that the assault had claimed the life of a security personnel, left one person injured, and resulted in the theft of property. He expressed concern over the repeated instances of security personnel in the council area facing violence and brutal attacks by unidentified gunmen, which has been demoralizing the efforts of vigilantes in safeguarding the localities.
Odono assured that security operatives are actively working to apprehend the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice. He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The statement from Odono also conveyed condolences to the families affected by the attack, emphasizing the commitment to achieving peace in Ohaukwu Local Government. Meanwhile, the Amalgamated Ngboejeogu Youth condemned the armed attack, describing it as barbaric and unfortunate. The group pledged to collaborate with government authorities, the Ngbo Leaders Council, and concerned individuals to ensure that those responsible for the crime face legal consequences.
Highlighting the current lack of vigilante or security checkpoints in the entire 10 autonomous communities in Ngbo, the group called on the State Government and the Nigeria Police hierarchy to expedite efforts in reviving the Police Area Command in Ngbo and establishing effective Community Policing across Ngbo land.
