The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, has arrested 149 suspected criminals. The individuals were apprehended in trucks entering the state at various black spots in three local government areas. The suspects, who claimed to be hunters, were found with concealed weapons, bags of Indian hemp, and cutlasses.
According to the commander of the Amotekun Corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the influx of these individuals had been noticed over the past few weeks. The suspects were arrested in areas known for robbery operations and kidnappings. Adeleye expressed concern over the suspects hiding weapons under their vehicles and questioned their legitimacy as hunters, especially since they claimed to be coming from distant parts of the country to hunt in unfamiliar areas of Ondo State.
The commander emphasized that individuals have the right to move around the country but not with weapons. He urged strangers to consult with relevant agencies or local traditional rulers if they have legitimate reasons to conduct business in Ondo State. Adeleye stated that the government would no longer tolerate people entering forest areas without a clear purpose.
Adeleye suggested a connection between such individuals and criminal activities, including kidnappings and armed robberies. He urged the suspects to register and seek permission if they genuinely intend to hunt in the state’s forestry reserves, emphasizing the need for transparency and cooperation with local authorities.
