Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, has affirmed that Akanni Olawale, an SS3 student of Agbara Grammar School in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, who allegedly assaulted a teacher and his parents, will soon face legal consequences for their actions. The trouble began on February 14 when the school’s principal, Mr Ajibola Olanrewaju, reportedly confiscated Olawale’s uniform for unruly behavior and posing as a student despite registering for exams at another school.
According to a source, Olawale later returned to the school with his parents, and despite attempts to explain the situation, they attacked the principal. During the altercation, Olawale allegedly slapped a teacher and tore his clothes. Commissioner Arigbabu confirmed the incident and stated that legal action would be taken against the student and parents. He emphasized the need to prosecute those involved, sending a strong message against such behavior in schools.
Arigbabu said, “Yes, I am aware of the incident; it is condemnable, and such won’t be allowed in our school. I am in touch with the relevant authorities, and I can tell you that the boy and his parents will be prosecuted.” Despite reported pleas from the parents, the commissioner insisted on pursuing legal action. He highlighted past cases where parents attacking teachers resulted in a parent receiving six months of community service, leading to a decline in such incidents.
Seun Agbesanwa, the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, Ogun State chapter, condemned the incident and called on the state government to ensure appropriate sanctions against those involved in the invasion and alleged assault on both the teacher and principal. The aim is to discourage such disruptive and violent behavior within the educational system.
