Personnel from the Nigerian Army have successfully neutralized at least five terrorists during clearance operations in Borno State. These operations, conducted by the Combat Team on Friday, led to the liberation of 78 kidnapped individuals, including 35 women and 43 children. The troops effectively cleared six villages where the terrorists were operating, namely Ngurusoye, Sabon Gari, Mairamri 1 and 2, Bula Dalo, Bula Dalo extension, Yamanci, and Gargaji, all located in Borno State.
According to a statement released on Saturday by Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Nigerian Army Public Relations, this significant achievement followed a fierce gun battle with the terrorists. The combat team encountered the terrorists during the operation and engaged them decisively, resulting in the elimination of five terrorists. Additionally, 78 hostages were rescued from the terrorists’ captivity.
The statement highlighted the continued efforts of the 7 Division Nigerian Army to target remnants of the Islamic State of West African Province and their JAS counterparts in the North East region of Nigeria. Recovered items from the operation include a terrorist’s flag and a mobile phone belonging to the terrorists. The rescued victims are currently undergoing preliminary investigation and profiling.
The Nigerian Army emphasized its commitment to sustaining momentum in ongoing Operations Desert Sanity III, aimed at eradicating terrorists and insurgents from the North East region. Over the past week, the troops have achieved significant success, with 106 terrorists neutralized and 103 arrested, demonstrating their dedication to restoring peace and security in the area.
