Residents of the Kuchibuyi community in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have expressed their dissatisfaction with the frequent attacks by suspected kidnappers in the area. According to information obtained, there was a recent kidnapping incident in the community about two weeks ago, where a resident named Abu was abducted from his home and released after paying a ransom.
Some residents reported that there have been a series of kidnapping attacks in the community since 2019. One resident named Timmy shared his experience, stating that in June, eight armed suspected kidnappers invaded the area, and while he managed to escape, others were not as fortunate. Another friend of Timmy was kidnapped two weeks before, and after paying a ransom, he was released but left physically impaired.
Timmy lamented the lack of improvement in security despite the presence of vigilantes in the community. He mentioned that other residents, including one named Austin who paid a ransom of N11 million, and a first-class graduate named Wale, had fallen victim to kidnapping incidents.
Yusuf Alkali, the community’s secretary, appealed to the government for assistance, requesting the establishment of a security station and the provision of a patrol vehicle. Alkali emphasized the need for government support to address the security challenges effectively.
Suleiman Ahmed, the commandant of the Kuchibuyi vigilante group, acknowledged the efforts of the security group but stressed the importance of government support to end the recurring incidents of kidnapping in the community. The residents’ appeals included a request for a police outpost and security patrol vehicles or motorcycles to enhance vigilance during nighttime.
