Amidst the recent appreciation of the naira against the US dollar in both official and parallel markets, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, has called upon traders and marketers across the nation to align their prices with the current value of the naira.
Senator Wamakko made this call on Tuesday during a gathering at his Gawon Nama residence, where he had broken the Ramadan fast with several commissioners, members of academia, and other dignitaries in the state. In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Bashar Abubakar, Senator Wamakko emphasized the significant drop in the value of the dollar against the naira, highlighting the need for traders to adjust their pricing accordingly.
Expressing his disappointment with traders who have failed to reduce commodity prices despite the favorable exchange rate, Senator Wamakko urged the leadership of traders’ associations, particularly in Sokoto State, to intervene and ensure that prices are lowered for the benefit of citizens and the nation’s development.
Among those present at the gathering were Commissioners of Tourism, Aminu Magaji Bodai; Religious Affairs, Dr. Jabir Sani Maihiula; and Home Affairs, Sharifu Abubakar Kamarawa. Additionally, representatives from the North-West University Sokoto, led by the Registrar, Umar Abubakar Garun Babba, along with other politicians and APC loyalists, joined in breaking the fast with Senator Wamakko.
