The Ajadeh Event Centre in Iperu Remo along Sagamu road became the scene of a tragic incident when eight gunmen clad in black attire stormed the premises on Friday, April 19, around 9:20 pm. Among those present were Babcock University lecturer Yinka Olowojobi and two others, who were leisurely relaxing at the venue.
According to a statement by Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately upon their arrival. Tragically, Olowojobi was fatally shot in the chest when he reportedly resisted their attempts to abduct him. Another individual, identified as Dare, and a third person who remains unidentified, were also kidnapped during the attack.
In response to the incident, the police swiftly apprehended Awada Ishaya, hailing from Plateau State, who had been recently employed as a security guard at the event centre. Ishaya’s arrest was prompted by suspicious circumstances surrounding the timing of his employment, which coincided with the opening of the event centre.
Despite efforts to save his life, Olowojobi was pronounced dead upon arrival at Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
The police have intensified efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and secure the release of the kidnapped victims. Further updates on the situation will be provided as the investigation progresses.
