The Central Bank of Nigeria, in collaboration with the West African Institute for Financial and Economic Management, has kicked off a five-day Regional Workshop focusing on Project Management, Monitoring & Evaluation using Results-Based Management. Running from May 6th to May 10th, 2024, the workshop aims to bolster project management expertise across the region.
The inauguration of the workshop took place in Abuja on Monday, with Dr. Yusuf Bulus representing CBN Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso. Founded on July 22, 1996, by the central banks of five Anglophone West African countries, WAIFEM’s primary objective is to cultivate skilled professionals and leaders in macroeconomic and financial management, governance, and institutional development.
In his keynote address on behalf of the apex bank’s governor, Bulus underscored the pivotal role of monitoring and evaluation in project management. He emphasized that a robust monitoring and evaluation framework serves as the bedrock of any development project, ensuring successful implementation and attainment of project goals.
The workshop delves into tackling challenges across sectors such as health, education, and construction, stressing the imperative of efficient resource utilization amidst human conflicts, geoeconomic fragmentation, and climate change. Bulus also highlighted how M&E fosters transparency, accountability, and early issue detection, thereby enhancing decision-making and replicating successful projects.
Dr. Baba Musa, the Director General of WAIFEM, extended gratitude to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and CBN Governor Mr. Olayemi Cardoso for their support. He emphasized the workshop’s significance in bolstering project management capabilities across the region.
With distinguished facilitators and participants converging from across the region, the event promises to equip attendees with invaluable knowledge and skills, enhancing job performance and project outcomes. Participants are encouraged to engage with the faculty and explore Abuja during their stay, as the workshop officially commences.
