Authorities at Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science, and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, have taken decisive action following a disturbing incident captured in a viral video showing two female students bullying a colleague. The university has expelled the two perpetrators and warned others involved.
In a statement released by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Temitope Akinbisoye, it was disclosed that the students involved in the assault, Miss Opemiposi Precious Bolaji and Osaro, faced the Students’ Disciplinary Committee. Bolaji, found guilty of assaulting her colleague with a stick and threatening further harm, was expelled. Osaro, who provided the stick, was also expelled for her role as an accomplice.
Furthermore, two other students, Miss Mistura Adejuwon and Miss Precious Olanrewaju, who recorded and shared the video on social media, were cautioned and advised to report such incidents to the university’s appropriate authorities rather than escalating them online.
However, Mr. Olawale Ajewole, who attempted to intervene by preventing further harm to the victim, was exonerated.
Importantly, the victim, Miss Gloria Ajayi, was not held responsible for the incident and was commended for not retaliating.
The university reiterated its commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all members of the community and urged anyone experiencing or witnessing harassment or violence to report it promptly.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner for Police in Ekiti State, Mr. Adeniran Akinwale, has ordered an investigation. The police have vowed to identify the perpetrator and ensure legal consequences for her actions.
The commissioner emphasized the seriousness of the act, describing it as inhumane and unacceptable, and urged the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
