The UK Civil Aviation Authority has raised concerns to Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority regarding alleged violations of aviation safety regulations by Air Peace. According to reports, two mandatory occurrence reports concerning Air Peace were submitted to the UK CAA, which subsequently forwarded the complaints to the NCAA in Nigeria. The complaints, outlined in a letter from the UK CAA to the NCAA, highlighted issues related to safety inspections and management systems.
In response, the NCAA has reached out to Air Peace, requesting clarification on the issues raised. The communication, dated May 14, 2024, and signed by Capt. O.O. Lawani, the NCAA General Manager of Operations, addressed concerns regarding the operational approval of Electronic Flight Bag functions affecting aircraft safety. It was noted that the captain of the flight acknowledged the use of an Electronic Flight Bag for navigational purposes but highlighted deficiencies such as the absence of a mounting device, charging points, or backup battery.
Air Peace, which recently commenced operations to London Gatwick from Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK, has yet to respond to these concerns. Attempts to reach Air Peace’s spokesperson, Stanley Olisa, were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered and text messages remained unreturned at the time of reporting.
