A suspect named Emeka has been apprehended by the Rivers State Police Command for his alleged involvement in the brutal gang rape and murder of Mrs. Chigbewejim Steward, the wife of an Assistant Pastor, in the Abarikpo community of Ahoada East Local Government Area.
The tragic incident unfolded after a dispute between Emeka and Mrs. Steward earlier in the day. Under the cover of darkness on February 12, 2023, Emeka and his accomplices forcibly entered Mrs. Steward’s home, abducted her, and transported her to an undisclosed location.
Fleeing the community upon learning of the police’s pursuit, Emeka was later arrested, as confirmed by Mrs. Steward’s husband, Lawyer Steward, who expressed gratitude for the police’s efforts in apprehending the suspects. He recounted the chilling details of the events leading to his wife’s untimely demise, attributing it to Emeka’s vindictive intentions following a previous altercation.
Allegations surfaced linking Emeka and his associates to a cult group known as ‘In Iceland,’ shedding light on the possible motives behind the heinous crime. Mrs. Steward’s lifeless body was later discovered near a fishing pond, bearing evidence of brutal assault and rape.
As the community mourns the loss of Mrs. Steward, a vocal advocate against criminal activities, calls for justice reverberate. The Rivers State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the matter, leading to the arrest of Emeka and two other suspects, underscoring the seriousness of the offense.
