Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, underwent questioning by officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon in Lagos State on Monday. This inquiry stemmed from a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi, alleging cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation in relation to comments made during an interview by Aloba.
According to Monisola Odumosu, the head of Aloba’s legal team, the petition was based on statements made by Aloba in an interview with a London-based blogger, where he allegedly implicated Oba Elegushi in the bullying and death of his son. Aloba clarified that his intention was to seek justice for his late son and not to defame Oba Elegushi. He admitted lacking proof to support the allegations, except for a petition previously written by his late son and phone conversations with him.
During the meeting with the police, Oba Elegushi requested a retraction of the defamatory statements made by Aloba on social media. However, it was clarified that Aloba was neither arrested nor detained, but rather granted bail. The legal team emphasized that Aloba is still mourning the loss of his son, which might have influenced his statements.
Mohbad, a former signee of Marlian Music owned by Naira Marley, passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, sparking controversies surrounding his death. The Lagos State Police Command initiated a special investigation team to probe the circumstances of his death, leading to the arrest of Naira Marley and Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry.
The singer’s body was exhumed for autopsy on September 21, 2023, to determine the cause of death. However, due to the decomposition of the body, the autopsy couldn’t provide conclusive results. Gbenga Omotoso, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, mentioned in a live telephone call with Ahmad Isah, host of Brekete Family, that toxicology tests were being conducted at the NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA.
