The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has announced that the Federal Government is working on a strategy to lift 50 million people out of poverty within the next 42 months. She emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is actively involved in various poverty alleviation programs to assist the vulnerable population in the country.
Dr. Edu stated during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today that the poverty reduction efforts would involve collaboration between her ministry and other interested ministries, particularly the Ministry of Trade and Industries, which oversees Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). She highlighted the intentional and deliberate approach of the government in addressing poverty and economic challenges.
The minister mentioned ongoing collaboration with international partners and the World Bank to achieve the goal of pulling 50 million people out of poverty in the specified timeframe. She emphasized President Tinubu’s commitment to alleviating the plight of the poor and vulnerable in society.
Additionally, Dr. Edu mentioned that the Federal Government has resumed payments for N-Power beneficiaries. Arrears are being paid to beneficiaries, and the process will continue until all eligible individuals receive their payments. The restructuring of programs aims to reduce unemployment and create job opportunities for Nigerians.
