The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a stern warning to tertiary institutions selling in-house application forms, urging them to cease the practice or face severe consequences from the federal government.
JAMB reminded all tertiary institutions in Nigeria that applications for admissions to regular and non-regular first-degree programs, National Diploma/National Innovation Diploma, and the Nigeria Certificate in Education must be processed through JAMB and its Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
The Board emphasized that institutions should advise candidates to apply directly to JAMB instead of selling unauthorized forms. To address this issue, JAMB announced its collaboration with regulatory agencies such as the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE). Any institution found violating this directive will be reported to the Minister of Education for necessary action.
JAMB also reminded institutions to adhere to the approved duration for their non-regular programs, which must be at least 150% of the duration of regular programs. Additionally, institutions desiring to place advertisements must instruct candidates who applied for the 2024 UTME/DE to change their first-choice institution to the advertising institution, rather than purchasing another application form or applying directly to the institution.
The advisory on advertisements aims to prevent infractions and ensure compliance with existing regulations concerning double applications.
