The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned Mohamadu Bello, a 20-year-old cattle rearer, before an Ado Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges of allegedly destroying farm produce valued at N3.8 million. The farm produce belonged to four individuals.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, Bello committed the offense on August 10 in Ido Ile Ekiti. The prosecutor alleged that Bello maliciously damaged crops valued at:
- N300,000 belonging to Awiye Olusola,
- N2.8 million belonging to Oni Samson,
- N300,000 belonging to Igbalajobi Adeyomi,
- N400,000 belonging to Akinola Sunday.
These acts were said to violate Section 363 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. Inspector Adejare requested an adjournment to study the case file and prepare his witnesses.
The defendant’s lawyer, Mr. Adeyemi Egbebi, requested bail, assuring the court that Bello would not flee. The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted bail in the amount of N80,000 with one surety and adjourned the case to September 6 for further proceedings.
In a separate case, another Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti, presided over by Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to Hammed Abdulrasheed, 22, and Abiodun Aluko, 42. They were arraigned for allegedly stealing a motorcycle.
Sergeant Alice Ojo, the police prosecutor, claimed that on August 6, Abdurasheed stole a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N1.2 million from Ogundipe Babasanmi, while Aluko was found in possession of the motorcycle. The alleged offenses violate Sections 302 and 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor requested a short adjournment to review the case file and gather witnesses. Defense counsel Mr. Adeyemi Egbebi appealed for bail, assuring the court that the defendants would appear for trial.
