A statement issued by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “The President calls for the immediate evacuation of people from the affected areas.” The statement, titled ‘President Tinubu Expresses Concern over Maiduguri Flood, Pledges Federal Support,’ highlighted the President’s commitment to addressing the crisis.
Borno State is currently facing one of its worst floods in decades, forcing thousands of residents to flee their homes. Key facilities, including a post office, the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, a cemetery, and a zoo, have been impacted by the overflow from the Alau Dam.
President Tinubu extended his condolences to the people of Borno and assured Governor Babagana Zulum of the Federal Government’s support. He also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide assistance to the flood victims, pledging federal resources to address the humanitarian needs of the affected communities.
