A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday morning in the Oye-Agu Market in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, when a speeding vehicle crashed into the market, leaving several people feared dead. The incident took place at around 11:10 am when a Toyota Sienna vehicle reportedly lost control after a brake failure, plowing into the market and hitting roadside traders.
Eyewitnesses reported chaotic scenes as items from the traders were scattered, and immediate rescue efforts commenced. Several injured individuals were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
The President-General of the Abagana Community, Ben Okongwu, confirmed the incident, stating that at least three people, including a child, had died in the crash, while others sustained injuries.
Details regarding the full extent of casualties remain unclear as rescue efforts continue. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State, Margaret Onabe, mentioned that she had not yet been informed of the incident but promised to make further inquiries.
