President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and long-term economic stability. He emphasized that his goal is to work for the nation’s development, not personal gain.
“I didn’t come to look for money or exploit the situation; I came to work,” said Tinubu during a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. The forum, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, included 16 former senior lawmakers, irrespective of political affiliations.
The meeting, disclosed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, allowed Tinubu to express gratitude for the support and encouragement from the forum’s members. He urged them to continue fostering national unity and development.
Tinubu acknowledged the complexity of legislative activities, constitutional reviews, and nation-building but expressed confidence that collaboration and inclusiveness could push Nigeria forward. He noted that Nigeria’s current economic challenges stem from past mismanagement, particularly during times of high crude oil production, when communities and education were neglected.
“We must ask ourselves: did we do anything to encourage the school enrollment process? It is a matter of conscience,” Tinubu said, pointing to dilapidated schools and the need for improved infrastructure.
He outlined his administration’s priorities, including infrastructure development, financial regulation compliance, energy security, and exploration of alternative energy sources. Tinubu also called on the former presiding officers to continue sharing their experience to help build the nation.
Senator Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the group, pledged full support for Tinubu’s administration, highlighting its efforts to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges. He praised the President’s courage in addressing local government autonomy and expressed confidence in his ability to overcome the country’s economic and security crises.
Nnamani concluded by commending Tinubu for trusting former lawmakers with critical national positions, saying their expertise plays a vital role in national development.
